* For those not familiar how did This Is Everything get its start?
This is Everything got its start in late 2007 early 2008 in the bedroom of current singer Dustin Longnecker as a three piece acoustic group consisting of Dustin, Kyle Wagenknecht, and our former drummer/guitarist Jordan Downing. The band matured into a full on rock group in the spring of 2008 adding our bassist (who had been playing with us long before we went by this name) Kyle Spotts and a drummer Joe Kies. We later down sized into a four piece with Jordan Downing moving from guitar to drums. In late 2009 our long time friend Jordan Downing quit the band to pursue a career. Later in the spring we added two new members, guitarist Ethan Holey and drummer Mykel Doyle. The addition of the two new members not only changed the sound, but has given us a new dimension and added energy. The original members Kyle Spotts, Kyle Wagenknecht and Dustin Longnecker have been playing together since around 2004.
• Describe the sound of the band in 3 words or less...
Quirky alternative rock
* What can someone expect when they pick up your cd?
To hear a high energy pop punk sound with a bit of an edge. Our songs range from the playful and exciting “I Hate My Job” to more serious tones such as “March of the Defeated”.
* Did you have any expectations for the album?
Being a new group, we were all excited to just be playing together. We weren’t just starting a new band, we we’re starting over and becoming friends. We had no idea what we were capable of with this group, and for six months and counting we have extreme confidence in our abilities. We all have different backgrounds and likes in music, so we all balance each other out and stretch our ideas in different directions. We are all so different it makes a very interesting dynamic. The name “This is Everything” was originally chosen to embody how important our music was to us, but now it reflects all the different things we have to offer. It is an amazing aspect to have a sound that everyone can at least appreciate. We have all became such good friends in the process, it isn’t about just making music, it’s about hanging out with friends and having fun.
* Describe your live show in 6 words...
Romance, Disaster, Shock, Orgasm, Party , ROCK.
• After seeing your show what do you want a person to walk away with?
A love for local music, and an interest in ours.
* Do you think hailing from the region is good or bad in regards to the success of This Is Everything?
The region makes it hard because we don’t really have a ton of home town fans, but because we are from southern Michigan, we can tear up both Toledo and Ann Arbor.
* How have member changes affected the band?
I think we’ve all grown as musicians and we have a fuller sound. The band as a whole functions a lot better now. We all communicate very well.
* What one word best describes each member?
Kyle Spotts – Stoic
Kyle Wagenknecht- Earthly
Ethan Holey- Juggalo
Dustin Longnecker- Excited
Mykel Doyle- undefined
* What does 2011 have in-store for This Is Everything?
As of right now we are working on a full line of merchandise (hats and t-shirts), and a new cd. We already have four new songs in the works and want to have six more or so to make a full length cd. We also plan to play more shows in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor, as well as the same amount we usually play in Toledo.
